He-Man has one of the most impressive chests in all of geek fiction!
It's no wonder he risks hyperthermia just to show it off.
As a guy, the chest is probably the most coveted muscle group to build for purely aesthetic purposes.
So why aren't more guys walking around catching hyperthermia like Grayskulls champion?
Well in my many years as a personal trainer, I discovered it's predominantly down to two things.
Majoring in the minors
OR
Going through the motions
That might seem very cryptic so allow me to elaborate on each one.
So majoring in the minors is basically prioritising suboptimal exercises for your chest development.
So selecting chest flies or the pec dec machine over dumbbells and barbells.
There is nothing wrong with chest flys or any other chest exercise, it's just a fact that some exercises are more optimal than others.
So ideally we want to select the exercises that give us THE POWER and are the most optimal for what we want (Quick reminder we want a He-Man chest)
The top 3 variations for chest development (And are also excellent strength builders) are
Bench Press/Incline Bench Press (Barbell)
Dumbbell Press (Incline/Flat)
Full body chest Dips (Weighted or regular)
That’s not to say you can't do any other exercises.
But I would also have at least two of these variations as your go-to chest exercises.
Okay so that's the first point, so what do I mean when I say “Going through the motions”
Well, it means you essentially perform the exercise on autopilot.
And your chest muscles are a bit like our favourite cowardly cat cringer…
They won’t come out all battle cat without a little coaxing.
Especially on the big chest moves like bench presses/Dips.
If you don't pay attention to activating your chest muscles in these exercises, then what will happen is your shoulders + triceps will take over the show.
Fear not though my fellow eternians!
To get your chest into the mix all you have to do is pull those shoulders back and push your chest out.
It's the best coaching cue I could give and you will feel a major difference once you get used to it.
The chest then becomes the star of the show and the shoulders/triceps become the dutiful sidekicks.

A lot of online fitness types can overwhelm and baffle you with too much info.
This has an overanalysis paralysis effect that stops you from doing anything.
